I know we are not meeting this summer, but please take note of the
following message. I encourage all who qualify and live in Orange County to check
out this method of voting from your own computer. We need to have a large
sample to give this a good test. Please see below. Thank you.

Subject: Voter Accessibility Task Force Update
To All Members of the Orange County Voter Accessibility Task Force:
With the fall elections just ahead I want to give you an update on the
eVOTE program. When we last met in October 2011, we had a mock election and
kickoff the eVOTE sign up for the 2012 Elections. Several of you signed up
to have your absentee ballot electronically sent to you so that you could
vote your ballot on your computer and then print it out for return to the
elections office. As a backup we sent you a regular absentee ballot just in
case the system didn’t work. For those who tried we have several startup
issues and most voted using the regular absentee ballot.
Since the Presidential Preference Primary we have been negotiating a
contract with Everyone Counts for this project through the Federal Voting
Assistance Program grant period of 2016.
Everyone Counts’ initial certification with the State of Florida was only
good through the Presidential Preference Primary this past January. It did
include using the system for voters with a disability. Everyone Count was
able to get their certification extended through the Presidential Election
this November 6th. But, the new certification did NOT include use by
voters with a disability. I sent a letter to the Division of Elections asking if
this was an oversight or a change in their position on its use. Last week
they officially responded that it was an oversight and it is still
available to a voter with a disability. Everyone Counts is working on a new
certification at will go until the grant expires in 2016.
Time is running short to recruit participates for the August 14th Primary
Elections. I know that several groups will not be meeting again until late
summer. If you or someone you know want to have your absentee ballot sent
to you electronically please call the eVOTE line at 407-836-8683 to request
your ballot. We will begin mailing ballots on July 10th. Please share
this information within your organization’s newsletters or emails.
I will be speaking to the Orange County Disability Advisory Board on
September 10th. I’m also available to do presentations to disability groups at
any time this summer. We need to start recruiting participants for the
November 6th Presidential Election. It is a very long 4 ballots (front and
back) for all voters. It will be a lot easier if you are using your home
computer to read and study the 16 questions that will be on the ballot.
Please encourage all you voting friends in the disability community to
sign up for this unique opportunity.
Have a great summer. Call me at 407-254-6500 with your election
questions.
