Dear Jody,
I don't think that the transportation had anything to do with this problem,
but I can tell you that the issues with the transportation service lays at
the feet of your county commissioners.
They told MV Transit, who is running Community Coach now, that they were to
stick strictly to the ADA guide lines and not to exceed them as they had
been doing.
They are following the 3/4 mile rule and the hours of operation of the fixed
route service to the latter.
Coach did not do this before, so people are going to have the feeling that
service is worst.
It is from the stand point that coach will not bend to help riders with
early start times and late ones either.
The only way that service will get better is if you have a active and vocal
group of transit advocates that go to the MPO and Commission meeting and
demand better service hours.
They have TD dollars that could be used to extend hours for people who need
to get to work and even live outside the 3/4 mile zone.
TD is not tied to the ADA and is more flexible, but does have its limites.
They are going to do as little as they can get away with.
You guys pay your taxes and you should have better access than you do.
Now with International shutting down, these blind people are either going to
be trapped there or will be forced to moved out of the area to make a
living.
If I can help, write me.
David Evans and GD Jack.
