Now some of you may not know me, that is fine, and question my answers here, which is okay.
So let me let you know who I am, and I think Bill is also part of the Travel & Tourism Division of the NFB, to which I am the President of, I don't remember if Bill has rejoined in Dallas, but he is in the business as well.
I have owned and operated Echevarria Travel since 2009.
Prior to that, I am also a graduate in 1989 with Hospitality Associates Degree. I did my internship in Walt Disney World in 1988.
After that I got married and didn't pursue my endeavors since family came first.
I worked in position as Administrative positions in the Sales industry in Health Care, and also Electronics prior to losing my vision from diabetes and kidney failure in 2001, which you can read my story in the April 2012 Edition of the Braille Monitor.
I was the one and still am the one that has been working hard in getting cruise lines such as Norwegian who in the past the NFB went after back in late 1999-2000, they have implemented braille menus, on there newer ships, have braille elevators with voice in them. Working on getting there older ship into dry dock so that the older ones can be upgraded.
Work in progress.
I was asked back in 2011 when former President of the Travel & Tourism Don Gilmore, who was stepping down and I was asked to run the division because of all the advocacy issues I have been fighting not only for us the blind and but for all disabled travelers.
Recently at the Dallas Convention I was voted in for my official 1st term as the President, and we have been working with such places as Walt Disney, we have had Mark Jones the Access Department Manager of both Walt Disney World and Disneyland in California on our conference calls, and hope to have him at the National Convention in Florida this year.
As well as Special Needs at Sea, who does all the scooter/wheelchair/oxygen rentals, as well as they are the ones that do the relief areas on the cruise ships, etc.
During the October National Disability awareness month which is still going on, I was awarded 2 awards one by Long Island Access and one by Governor Andrew Cuomo. Entrepreneur 2012.
I am also the Treasurer of the Greater Long Island Chapter since 2007, member of NAGDU and NYAGDU since 2007, The Diabetic Action Network since 2006.
So I do hope, that even though Bill is also a travel professional. I am as well and a member of the NFB.
That is why I was asked to do this.
If I am posting anything is because I know it.
Have a great day, and look forward to working with you all.
