Hi Dooreen, I am from Fort Pierce, and am pleased to know your chapter is active in the whitecane law.  Before I left St. Luci, the chapter was not as active.  Thanks for helping making that happen.  Now when I come home to visit, I can participate in a productive chapter.

The St Lucie Chapter will be holding a White Cane Safety Day on Tuesday, October 15, 2013. We are in the process of finalizing the details.

I don't believe this has been done in St Lucie County in many years, so we are very excited to be doing this Walk! Please come and join our chapter and take part in this event!

I will keep everyone up to date on our progress and how it all turns out!

V President, FOPBC

Dear Johnnie, Carlos, And Fellow NFB Florida Friends,
This is fantastic what you are doing!
Well Done!
As a White Cane user who has been clipped several times by cars even when crossing in the middle of a Cross Walk, with the Green signal, and even ending up laying on the hood of a car once, after being hit, (luckily the car was not going very fast), and thrown there I simply cannot believe Florida Drivers are for the most part just completely unaware of this Law.
And that "Right Turn On Red" is a death Trap for we White Cane travelers!
I once heard there were audio (for Radio), and Video (for Television) Public Announcements promoting awareness of the "White Cane Law", available from the NFB Main Office.
Has anyone tried to get some of these White Cane promos, and convince their local Radio or Television Stations to air them?
I have not seen or heard one on either T V or Radio in decades.
Something I would sure be happy to work on with my new NFB Friends in the Broward Chapter who I plan to meet a week from today!
With Best Regards,
God Bless,
Alan

Greetings To All,
The Tallahassee NFB does White Cane Street crossing throughout the year. We
have large signs about the White Cane Law. We cross major intersections and
pass out flyers about the White Cane Law. The Tallahassee Police is present
during these events. Tallahassee NFB is scheduled for another White Cane
Law Event this month. I have contacted the President of Tallahassee
Council of the Blind to invite them to participate in NFB Events of common
interest. Tallahassee NFB has offered to make the location where Robert was
hit the next White Cane Law   awareness street crossing   site. I am
working with TPD to assure all TPD personnel is aware of the White Cane Law.
I was in a meeting with TPd staff this week to revisit TPD' strategy for
making TPD staff aware of the White Cane Law. I will be contacting leaders
of any other group who wish to join the Tallahassee NFB in our White Cane
Law Events. Tallahassee NFB has an assertive plan to contact law makers
about increase in the related fines and other changes already promoted by
NFB. The support of all in this effort is welcomed.
Johnnie Slaton, President
Tallahassee NFB

Johnny this is very good news. Keep up the good work. This is an example of what all of our NFB chapters should be doing across the state to make law enforcement aware of the White Cane law.
