DRIVERLESS CAR, MONDAY JUNE 17, 2013, 8 PM EDT, THE PAT PRICE ROOM:

Steve Mahan is the Executive Director of the Santa Clara Valley Blind
Center in San Jose, California. At the beginning of 2012, Steve became
Google's first official "user" of their Self-Driving Car. His experience
behind the wheel was captured on film, a portion being released as a YouTube
video in March of last year. Legally blind, it was Steve's first time behind
the wheel of a car in more than eight years.

Now 60, in 1990 Steve was diagnosed with congenital nanophthalmos, a rare
condition that caused the loss of all vision in one eye three years later
and progressive loss of vision in the other eye. In early 2005, Steve became
a client of the Santa Clara Valley Blind Center and began serving as a board
director in 2007. Since early 2009, he has worked as the Executive Director
of this agency located in the heart of Silicon Valley. Artist, history buff
and technology junkie, Steve's resume includes work in graphic design,
computer consulting, publishing, data management and ministry.

Google reached out to the Blind Center for help in understanding the needs
and dreams of the blind community, among others, who might benefit from new
technologies under development. As part of their testing, Steve was invited
to have a more active role, the opportunity of a lifetime, as a passenger
and even some time behind the wheel. "Driving" the blue Prius in his home
town Morgan Hill, Steve was given Google's official designation,
"Self-Driving Car User #0000000001." -----
