DOJ Header
The Justice Department announced June 13, 2013 that it has entered into an interim settlement agreement with the State of Rhode Island and the City of Providence
that will resolve violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for approximately 200 Rhode Islanders with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
This first-of-its-kind agreement addresses the rights of people with disabilities to receive state- and city-funded employment and daytime services in
the broader community, rather than in segregated sheltered workshops and facility-based day programs with only other people with disabilities.
To find out more about the ADA, this settlement, or the Civil Rights Division's effort to enforce the Supreme Court's decision in Olmstead v. L.C., call
the Justice Department's toll-free ADA Information Line at 800-514-0301 or 800-514-0383 (TDD), or access its

are interpreting the law and subsequent regulations.
July 17, 2013 - The anatomy and myth of the ADA drive-by lawsuit
Has the Americans with Disabilities Act is become a tool of scam artists and unethical attorneys who seek to line their pockets instead of eliminating discrimination?
The truth, as usual, is considerably different than what is often represented by the media, anti-civil rights forces and a legitimately scared but reactionary
business community. Attorney J. Aaron McCullough will review recent trends in ADA litigation that have been labeled as "drive-by" lawsuits across the nation
including some of the media reports documenting these events.
This webinar will focus on the legal reality behind the lawsuits.
Learning Objectives:
list of 4 items
. Learning to distinguish ADA Title III cases from the typical "drive-by" lawsuit.
. Understanding how to enforce Title III rights through available remedies and avoid the label of "drive-by" lawsuits.
. A review of defenses against this type of "drive-by" lawsuit for the business community.

will review cases interpreting the definition of disability under the ADA Amendments Act and the relevant regulations that have been issued. There will
also be a discussion of emerging ADA legal issues in the wake of fewer cases being dismissed for failing to meet the definition of disability.

Accessible Technology Webinar Series
Accessible technology is technology that can be used by people with a wide range of abilities and disabilities. It incorporates the principles of universal
design. Each user is able to interact with the technology in ways that work best for him or her. Accessible technology is either directly accessible -in
other words, it is usable without assistive technology -or it is compatible with standard assistive technology. Just as buildings that have ramps and elevators
are accessible to wheelchair users, products that adhere to accessible design principles are usable by people with a wide range of abilities and disabilities.
The purpose of the Accessible Technology Webinar Series is to build to provide your organization with the professional development opportunity and ability
to promote full and unrestricted participation in society for persons with disabilities through the promotion of technology that is accessible to all.
