Absolutely. I agree, she desperately needs help, and I do apologize for the
rough way in which I treated this subject upon first reading the article. I
know she needs compassion as much as anybody. But still, her reaction was
inexcusable. Professionals will tell you that most people with mental
illness, especially when they are using their meds properly and have some
sort of support system, are no more violent than the public in general, and
having worked with people with mental illness for a number of years, I would
certainly agree with that. What this woman did was attack a living being,
and I hate to bring religion into it but, in my view, one of God's creatures
who was not in the least threatening her with harm. Not only that, she was
the threat here, threatening a blind person's means of mobility. And then
she had the nerve to mildly say she guessed she was "overreacting." That
doesn't begin to describe what she was doing, assault is more like it.
Sometimes it is extremely disappointing when I see how little progress we
really have made as exemplified by this reprehensible behavior.

Kir, I don't agree. I don't think mental illness is an excuse for
what this lady did and she should be held responsible. Spraying the
dog was wrong and using store to do it was wrong. Yes, she needs
help but she is still responsible for her actions.
