Senate Introduces a Bill to Make Changes to SSI

Last week, Senators Warren of Massachusetts and Brown of Ohio introduced a bill that would make changes to Supplemental Security Income SSI. The bill is
called the Supplemental Security Restoration Act of 2014. As it stands now, those who receive SSI benefits must not have more than 2,000 dollars in cash or assets or they will lose their benefits. According to Disability Scoop, one of the proposed changes in the bill would raise the maximum amount to $10,000. The bill would also eliminate the restriction on family and friends providing assistance such as housing or food to SSI beneficiaries and raise the income
level that beneficiaries can receive before losing their benefits. . If you think this is an important bill,
contact your senators and ask them to support the bill.
