[Nfbf-l] seeking advice on talking bar code scanner

Hello Kathy,

Though it is quite expensive at a price of $999.99 on the Envision web site I think it is the best way to go for scanning product bar codes. I have used a couple of different apps on my iPhone and though they can work it is a slow process when trying to locate the bar code on a product. These apps are really designed for a sighted person who can see the bar code on the product and they simply point the camera on their phone at it and snap a picture of it and the app does the rest identifying the product and includes any other info provided by the product manufacturer. If I were looking for a bar code scanner I would have to go with the I.D. Mate. I believe there web site URL is as follows.

http://www.envision.com

Thanks,
Jim Ellsworth

Hello Kathy,
Here's another Kathy responding to your enquiry about a bar code scanner. I have a refurbished I.D. Quest that I think is terrific. It is smaller than my earlier I.D. Mate. I would suggest that you get in touch with Envision America. The folks there are very helpful. I live alone now that I am a widow and would be lost without my I.D. Mate. I simply do not want to deal with an app on my Iphone but much prefer a separate unit. I love the fact that if you scan an item that is not part of the database, you can simply get a sighted person to read the directions and then they will be there for future use. It is simply a most wonderful product.

Best of luck to you,

Kathy Davis

My husband and I are wanting to purchase a talking bar code scanner. I have heard of the I.D. mate summit and the I.d. Quest. I’m not sure I understand if there is any real difference between the two. If anyone has any input on these products and where might be the best place to purchase one, please feel free to voice your opinion.

Thanks.

Kathy
