I am sad to report the passing of one of our NFB of Central Florida chapter
members. Dr. Robert (Bob) Lessne, a long-time member of NFB and a valued
advocate for the disabled died yesterday January 10, 2018.

I met Bob when he and Candace moved here from Miami. Bob was a tireless
advocate for the blind and other disabilities. He was passionate about
enforcement of the ADA and was committed to his work.

He won the praise of many people. Orange County Commissioner Pete Clark
praised him for acquainting him with exactly how a blind person gets around
and the obstacles we face when commissioner Clark walked around with Bob 2
years ago on our White Cane Safety Day celebration.

Bob lived in Miami for much of his life where he taught Mobility and
Orientation. (He has a phenomenal cane collection.) He was always there to
help out at conventions. He is also one of the founding members of the
Orange County Democratic Disability Caucus. He also was a member with the
Greater Orlando Council of the Blind.

He was diagnosed with cancer and underwent one round of chemotherapy, but
complications developed and we lost him yesterday. He was my friend and I
will miss him. I am honored to have known him. My love and prayers go to
Candace and to his family.

The National Federation of the Blind knows
that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future.
Every day we raise the expectations

of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind
people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what
holds you back.

Together with love, hope, and determination, we transform dreams into
reality.
