[NFBF-L] WiFi @ National

Hi,

Many hotels do charge a deposit. The Rosen Shingle Creek used to charge a deposit for the national when it was held there. And last year in Tampa, I believe the Hilton also charged a deposit. The hotel in Boca this year also wanted to charge for secure wifi, I think, but I did not want to pay for it. An unsecure wifi was available. Las Vegas is ridiculous. They must have known about these extra charges ahead of time. I think everything has to be in a contract. Safe travels and a successful convention to all.

Annely

Hi Kaye,

Thank you for giving your opinion.
The same thing happened with the State Convention. They charged a deposit for “extras” at check-in. I’ve never heard of it. And I’ve been to many hotels all over.
Nobody is perfect and organizing a Convention is a huge amount of work. But some details must be attended to, especially for people that do this every year.

Hi, I agree with this message. I am not sure if the hotel did not bring all these extra expenses to the organizers attention before the planning began, or if the organizers just did not consider the members, but all of the little extras I keep hearing about are quite disheartening. Charging 40 dollars a day just for enough wifi to run devices is really unheard of. I understand that this is Las Vegas, and I also understand the need to "save" for attending the convention, but I can assure everyone, that I work, and I still could not afford all the extras this year. $50 to remove the Minnie bar, $40 per day if an empty fridge is needed, and now $40 a day for WiFi? Doesn't sound good for the organizers.
Just my opinion of course.

Madame president, this is really very expensive. Thank God I have T-Mobile that will supply my Internet needs. But the national office should consider all these extra expenses when they choose a venue for our national convention. This place is much too expensive! I am going because I have some goals to achieve for our chapter. And, of course, I don’t like to miss the national convention for the motivation aspect of it. But this is just too much. Please convey this to the national office. It just becomes an affordable for the average member. What is the national office try to compass with this? It seems to me that they are more focused on the more affluent members, forgetting that most of us don’t have the means to afford this kind of deal. I trust you, and your connections with the national office to speak up In our behalf. Thank you Madame president for your attention to this matter.
