I am sorry to bring this news to the list, but Gina Harmon asked me to
please let all of you know that her husband Kirk Harmon ended a long battle
with cancer and other illnesses earlier today. For those who don't know
Kirk, up until about seven or eight years ago, he lived in Orlando and was a
very active member of the NFB Central Florida chapter. He was extremely
helpful in raising funds for our chapter. He was a real go-getter. He
helped us organize, raise funds for, get donations for, and then put on a
fund-raising spaghetti dinner and auction, which raised a considerable sum
of money for the Central Florida chapter. We have been able to use these
funds in many ways through the years to benefit our chapter members and
others in the community. He never refused to help. He was a very kind
person and a very giving person. He also helped to organize a program
working with Gerry Idler, Holly Idler-Ryan, Sheila Young and Sherri Brun
where we obtained donated low-vision and other equipment and passed it on to
people as a loan. This kept going on for some time and continued in a
different fashion after he left the program. He participated in legislative
trips to Tallahassee with the Florida affiliate and later on, upon his move
to Jacksonville was quite active in the NFB Jacksonville chapter. He had a
great sense of humor and was a genuinely caring person. He is survived by a
son and a daughter and I believe five grandchildren. I so much appreciated
his friendship, his work with the NFBCF chapter and all the other ways he
gave to all his friends. My sincere condolences go out to everyone who knew
Kirk, to his family, and especially to Gina. You are in my thoughts and
prayers Gina. I am honored that you asked me to pay tribute to Kirk. Thank
you. Rest in peace my friend. I will never forget you.

The National Federation of the Blind knows
that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future.
Every day we raise the expectations

of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind
people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what
holds you back.

Together with love, hope, and determination, we transform dreams into
reality.
