Hi again everyone,

I meant to include this note within my email from earlier this morning.

To show our unity as an affiliate from the great state of Florida, I have a suggestion.

If you are using the Zoom platform to access meetings, and you have the ability to edit your displayed name, consider doing the following. At the beginning of the text field where your name of choice is shown, add the letters FL - (remember to use capital letters for FL, then enter one space, a dash and another space). When you do this and you enter a Zoom meeting room, any other Florida attendees who have tried this name change trick will be lined up with you in the participants list just like we are all sitting together in cushy padded chairs in a row. This will really show that Florida is showing up in force at National Convention or any other Zoom meeting you attend. Several of our Affiliate members have been trying this "FL - " idea for a couple of months, and they have found that having Florida folks line up together really brings positive attention to The Sunshine State.

Here are some tips on how to change your display name in Zoon.

If using the mobile app.

Open the app. On your mobile device
Select "settings"
At the top of the screen below the word "settings" will be a button showing information such as, the name that shows to others when you are on a Zoom call, your email address and the type of account you have. Because this is a button, you can click on it, and then have the ability to edit the text box labeled "display name". When I first tried the edit step, it changed my name from "iPhone" or "Owner" to "FL - Russ Davis" as I directed it to.
After your editing is done, simply click on the "settings back" button.

When you next enter a Zoom meeting your new display name should be shown.

One other way of editing your display name is to find the participants list on the Zoom meeting screen, (once you are on a call), and click on it.
If you are able to see the long list of folks on the call, locate your name as displayed, (remember, your display name might actually be your phone number). Try to double tap on your own name and see if you can edit the id name or number for yourself.
This change may only work for this particular call, and so you may have to do it each time you log into a call.

This is why I have installed the Zoom app On my OS device and why I don't generally dial in, either on a land-line or mobile phone. I, myself, don't generally use the "one touch mobile" method of entry, although I know it works well for many out there. My preference is to install the Zoom app On my device and to have a Zoom basic account with my own user ID and password.

If you are using the web based Zoom platform, (which I don't use or have much experience with, I'm told you need to log into your account using your web browser and change your display name within your profile. I've a feeling it isn't too hard there either, but again, I haven't spent much time there.

Hope you are willing to join all of your fellow Floridians in this effort to have your Florida Affiliate shine!!

Feel free to let me know if I can help you in anyway.

Thanks again for taking the time to read my emails today,

Russ

Good Morning to all my Federation Family,

Usually about this time every week I send out a note regarding our weekly Zoom cup of coffee meeting known as Sunrise and shine with NFB Newsline. The gathering is on vacation for a few weeks, and so will not take place tomorrow. We have plans for it to return soon. I miss our weekly get together and hope you do too. If you have not found your way into the call, please watch for future announcements, and feel free to join us for a morning beverage, a quick NFB Newsline lesson and some fun conversational topics. We always seem to have lively off-the-wall discussions and a lot of laughs.

In the meantime, we are in the middle of the 2020 National Federation of the Blinds annual convention, being held virtually. I am so thrilled to spread the word that information about the convention is available on NFB Newsline, and that many of the sessions will be available for you to listen to, right on Newsline. Although there are so many ways to stream audio of the convention proceedings, I can’t wait to try out listening via the trusty dial-in access method.

I found this morning’s email from the NFB regarding Convention so helpful I decided to forward it to you, just in case you were not included in the original mailing. If you read through it fully I know you will find it packed with information about ways to access and enjoy the 2020National Convention.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns about NFB Newsline, feel free to call our knowledgeable and friendly support team at 1-844-827-7371.

Have a great time at Convention and see you all soon!

Sincerely,

Russ Davis, Coordinator
