[NFBF-L] A Very Special Sunrise and Shine with Author Andrew Leland this Thursday, September 7th at 9:00 AM - Please Spread the Word Far and Wide

Hello Sunrise and Shine family!

A special request from Russ: If you have read Andrew Leland’s book, The Country of the Blind: A Memoir at the End of Sight and can be with us on Sunrise and Shine this Thursday morning, please let me know as soon as you can, (either by phone, text or email). 

Also, please spread the word about this extra special Sunrise and Shine event to anyone who might be interested. We’d like to have as many folks as possible  join us.

Before getting too deep into this email, please be aware of two very important items. First, note that our next Sunrise and Shine with NFB-NEWSLINE® is actually taking place outside of its regular time slot. Yes, I know we normally meet on the second and fourth Thursday’s of each month, but we’re changing that up just a bit here in September. Because of scheduling constraints, we’re going to hold our next call this week. I hope very much that you will join us this Thursday, September 7th at 9:00 AM. Of course, as is customary, you’ll find the Zoom link below.

The second important item to tell you about is that Andrew Leland, author of The Country of the Blind: A Memoir at the End of Sight,  will join us for the first hour of our call. We discussed his recently released and highly acclaimed book during our last couple of calls and with everyone’s encouragement, we were able to reach Andrew and  extend an invitation to ‘Rise and Shine. I’m so happy that he graciously accepted our invitation.

For those who don’t’ know, Andrew is a well-known journalist, teacher and podcast host and producer. Interviews with Andrew are appearing all over the internet. I’ve been fortunate enough to catch several of them, such as the ones in the New York Times, The San Fransisco Chronicle, NPR’s Fresh Air, with Terry Gross and Jonathan Mosen’s Living Blindfully podcast.

I’m so glad that I received an email from Mike Calvo from Numa Solutions several weeks ago which let me know about how terrific The Country of the Blind really was. After reading it myself, I whole heartedly agree with Mike. The book is available on Audible, Bookshare and Kindle. If you can take a short bit of time out of your busy schedule and pick up a copy of the book before our Thursday call, I know you will be glad you did.

If you haven’t been to one of our calls before, joining us at 9:00 AM for a relaxing no stress get together will give you a chance to find out what you’ve been missing. We always take time for welcoming new guest speakers and participants and for lots of warmth and laughter.

Most of us have become pretty familiar with attending meetings using the Zoom platform over the past couple of years and in fact, we’ve been using Zoom since we launched Rise and Shine way back on April 16th 2020. If you’re not used to using Zoom or if it’s still giving you difficulties, don’t give up just yet. The regulars on our call are always warm and welcoming and are thrilled to see new faces.
