Good Morning Sunrise and Shine Family,

We’re back on track with our schedule, with Sunrise and Shine with NFB-NEWSLINE occurring tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM. We try to stick to a schedule of Zoom calls on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month. Our last call with special guest Andrew Leland took place on an off week, but none-the-less, the gathering was extremely well received and well attended. Thanks to all of you who joined us and I hope many of you have obtained a copy of Andrew’s book, The Country of the Blind, (a memoir at the end of sight). Let me know tomorrow if you’ve been reading it.

On tomorrows call, we will have a visit from an old friend, Matt Philipenko from Microsoft. I believe that Crystal Jones will be joining us too. They will be discussing an upcoming presentation that they will give during the NFB of Florida’s annual convention, being held in Tampa, October 6th thru 8th. Matt has let me know that the exhibit hall booth he will be building will be fantastic and that he hopes everyone in attendance at the Embassy Suite Hotel will stop by and say hello.

There are lots of reasons to come by and spend time with us at “Rise and Shine tomorrow, even if you aren’t going to be able to make it to convention. Being a blind person and being employed by one of the largest technology companies in the world, Matt always has fascinating things to talk about and is always a very entertaining guest to have on our calls.

I need to bring up a bit of housekeeping from our August 7th 100th show celebration. SRS is trying to represent itself well during the NFB of Florida convention by supporting multiple events, including providing prizes for trivia night participants during a Friday night event and providing door prizes during the weekend, (among other things). We are still seeking monetary donations from Sunrise and Shine family members to help fund our efforts. Over the past several years, we’ve stepped up in a big way and really let convention goers know how popular and well liked our regular calls are. Providing support at both the NFB of Florida and the Florida Council annual State conventions has really brought a strong sense of pride to our family and I hope we’ll keep the tradition going. If you can give something, even just a little, please reach out to me today and we’ll work out the arrangements. My contact information is shown below.

If you haven’t been to one of our calls before, joining us at 9:00 AM for a relaxing no stress get together will give you a chance to find out what you’ve been missing. We always take time for welcoming new guest speakers and participants and for lots of warmth and laughter.

Most of us have become pretty familiar with attending meetings using the Zoom platform over the past couple of years and in fact, we’ve been using Zoom since we launched Rise and Shine way back on April 16th 2020. If you’re not used to using Zoom or if it’s still giving you difficulties, don’t give up just yet.
