Hello, Florida Federation Family,

I am so happy to have the opportunity to let you all know what the 2025 National Federation of the Blind legislative priorities will be. This, as you may know, will be the first session for the 119th Congress.

Your NFB of Florida Washington Seminar legislative delegation will be traveling to our nations Capitol for our exciting annual event on February 3rd. We have dedicated ourselves to learning the priorities in depth so that we may present them to our elected officials and seek support in a polite, persuasive and professional manner.

Your delegation has already held one planning meeting and will be holding many, many more before we head north into the cold of DC.

I will again list for you the names of the 8 delegates selected by your Board and also want you to know that 3 additional Florida Federation members, will be attending at their own expense. Our current total delegation size is 11.

Preparing to walk the halls of Congress are:

Russ Davis

Camille Tate

Z’leah Liburd

Kaye Baker

Adriann Keve

Donald Cristie

Erica Thomas

Javier Diaz

Jose Bohorquez

Natalie Williams

Niklas Ham

I hope that I can keep up with all of those young students!

Please see below an email from John Pare with our legislative priorities for 2025.

Thanks to all in our Affiliate for your incredible support, we certainly need it and couldn’t accomplish our mission without all of you behind us.

Respectfully,

Subject: [NFB-Legislative-Directors] 2025 Washington Seminar Issues and Hotel Reminder

Dear Affiliate Presidents and Legislative Directors:

We are pleased to announce the legislative issues for the 119th Congress, First Session. The three issues are:

Websites and Software Applications Accessibility Act

Medical Device Nonvisual Accessibility Act

Blind Americans Return to Work Act

Now that the issues have been finalized, Kyle will be sending out the sample Congressional meeting request email later today. Remember, it is important to keep track of the date, time, and location of your Congressional meetings so that you can input them into the Washington Seminar Portal when we open it in early January.

Also, hotel rooms are going fast! Don’t forget to reserve yours by using the booking link provided at nfb.org/Washington-seminar, or by calling the hotel directly at 877-834-3613 and providing our group code, NF5. Our room block will be held open until midnight on Tuesday, December 31, so don’t let the opportunity to book a room at our special rate pass you by!

We are also asking those attending the 2025 Washington Seminar to register for the event by using the registration link at nfb.org/Washington-seminar. Registration for the event is totally free, and we are simply using it as a way to better communicate with attendees and better serve our membership.

Last but not least, we will be conducting several Zoom training sessions in the weeks leading up to the 2025 Washington Seminar, so we will announce the schedule for those sessions in the near future.

As always, I am eagerly looking forward to seeing all of you in DC and starting a brand new Congress out on a strong foot for the issues that most affect the blind of America.

Warm regards,

John
