This is an opportunity for chapter presidents to address the convention and <b>must publicly announce</b> the names of their <b>delegate and alternate delegate</b> who will represent the chapter in the nomination process.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:11.0pt'>What is a Delegate?<o:p></o:p></span></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt'>The delegate plays a critical role at our convention. This person, traditionally appointed by the chapter president (and often is the president), is the official voting representative for the chapter. Most importantly, the delegate serves as the chapter’s voice during the <b>Nominating Committee meeting</b>.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:11.0pt'>What is the Nominating Committee?<o:p></o:p></span></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt'>The Nominating Committee votes on a slate of candidates for any open positions on our affiliate board. This is a <b>closed and private</b> meeting where discussion and debate may occur to determine the best individuals to lead our affiliate.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:11.0pt'>Important:</span></b><span style='font-size:11.0pt'> If a delegate is not addressed to the affiliate president during roll call, that chapter will not have representation on the Nominating Committee.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:11.0pt'>What Happens During the Nominating Committee Meeting?<o:p></o:p></span></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt'>The committee will convene on <b>Sunday morning, October 5</b>, before the general session. The exact time and location will be shared with chapter presidents or delegates before the convention begins.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt'>Please be aware:<o:p></o:p></span></p><ul style='margin-top:0in' type=disc><li class=MsoNormal style='mso-list:l0 level1 lfo3'><b><span style='font-size:11.0pt'>The meeting will start promptly at the scheduled time.</span></b><span style='font-size:11.0pt'> Once the doors are closed, no one will be allowed to enter or exit until the meeting concludes.<o:p></o:p></span></li><li class=MsoNormal style='mso-list:l0 level1 lfo3'><span style='font-size:11.0pt'>Roll call will be conducted to verify that each delegate present matches the submitted name. If a person’s name does not match the official delegate list, they will be asked to leave.<o:p></o:p></span></li><li class=MsoNormal style='mso-list:l0 level1 lfo3'><span style='font-size:11.0pt'>I will review the protocols and procedures at the start of the meeting. After that, the process of slating nominees will begin.<o:p></o:p></span></li></ul><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt'>The work of the Nominating Committee is <b>strictly confidential</b>. Discussions held during the meeting must <b>not be shared</b> prior to the elections on October 5, which will occur during general session. At that time, the Committee Chair will present the committee’s report to the membership. This committee plays a vital role in our democratic process and is one of the most important functions within our organization.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt'><o:p> </o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-size:11.0pt'>Candidacy Reminder<o:p></o:p></span></b></p><p class=MsoNormal><span style='font-size:11.0pt'>While <b>any paying due member in good standing</b> may run for an open seat on the affiliate board, the Nominating Committee will present a slate of candidates they believe are best suited to serve our affiliate and national organization. Also, nominations can come from the convention floor and they will follow the same protocol of our election process.
