MSCC Members:
Below is a loving tribute to a woman whose indomitable spirit could not be dampened or destroyed. Brooke and her husband Al were former members of the Melbourne Space Coast Chapter, while maintaining their membership in the Greater Palm Beach Chapter. She helped get a fledgling chapter Fundraising Committee off the ground and was a friend to many. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her!
Thanks,
Camille

Subject: [NFBF-Leaders] In loving memory of Brooke Evans
Biography of Brooke Evans
Brooke Evans came into the National Federation of the Blind Florida Deaf Blind Division (NFBFDBD) in 2010. Brooke quickly realized her lifetime networking and advocacy skills were foundational building blocks which fit well within the NFB and the nfb Deaf Blind Community. As a new member, blind hearing impaired, with much anticipation, Brooke knew The National Federation of the Blind of Florida (NFBF) would bring valuable education needed to springboard her into the NFB way to ‘live the life we want’. Her passion to serve ““all things deaf blind””, soon opened new uncharted opportunities, which began to moved aside her deaf blind challenge as she began using her networking and advocacy skills to serve the newly formed National Federation of the Blind Florida Deaf Blind committee. Never having been in a community of blind hearing impaired The NFBFDB committee gave a whole new dimension to The NFBF love, hope and determination.
Brooke utilizes Florida’s greatest resource, the Governors' Councils and their public forums. Florida Rehabilitation Council (FRC) have heard her voice many times advocating legislation for Florida to create very specific services for Florida’s Deaf Blind community, many of whom are NFB members
Brooke has use the public forum of the Florida Coordinating Council for the Deaf and hard of Hearing (FCCDHH) advocating on behalf of children who are deaf and hard of hearing to have a voice in their case management.
Life before NFB, Brooke's organizational skills were evident throughout her school years and her husband’s military career life of 20 years. Brooke has always been active in her community as a volunteer. These included playing church piano and organ, being an advocate for a mental health system, a drug abuse program ,and a gang task force.
Currently, Brooke is a chapter member of the Palm Beach chapter and is working with the 2019 national Federation of the blind Florida state convention planning committee. Brooke serves as 2nd vice president currently for the NFBF DB division. She has been an active NFBFDB board member since it’s inception. Brooke served on the National Federation of the Blind Deaf Blind division from 2015 to 2017. Brooke networks opportunities four her blind, blind hearing impaired peers whenever wherever A matching opportunity arises.
Brooke’s proudest accomplishments are being Mom of four, ”Gramma” of 6 and Great “Gramma” of 10.
