Here are the Zoom events that will occur between Monday, April 13, and
Friday, April 17 hosted by members of the National Federation of the Blind
of Pennsylvania. Everyone is welcome to join us, even if you live outside of
Pennsylvania. These events are for everyone.

 

Please note that all times are in Eastern Standard Time (EST).

 

JAWS Training with Joe - Monday April 13,  from noon to 12:45PM EST.

Please join us as we explore the capabilities and usability of the
industry-leading JAWS screen reading application. We will show you the best
practices, tips, and tricks for using JAWS to operate a computer from the
beginner to the advanced level. The training will be focused on Windows 10
and the Office 365 productivity suite, but other applications and web sites
will also be discussed as appropriate or upon request. Bring your questions,
too, and we will do our best to answer them. The trainer, Joseph Drenth, is
certified for JAWS by Vispero, maker of the JAWS screen reader application.

 

coffee with Emily - Monday, April 13,from 2PM to 3PM EST.

We will discuss legislative issues facing blind Americans, laws affecting
the education of your blind children, and our Braille Enrichment for
Literacy and Learning (BELL) programs scheduled for this summer. Parents,
teachers of blind students, and anyone interested in the topics of
legislation, parenting, and education are encouraged to join us. Please note
that this event is informative and does not represent any form of legal
advice. 

 

Reading Roundtable with Marsha - Monday, April 13, from 5PM to 6PM EST.

Pull a chair up to the table and share with us about your favorite books and
reading media. Have you discovered any new favorites recently at home while
practicing social distancing? Let's talk about them.

 

Pittsburgh Round Up with Emily - Monday, April 13,from 7PM to 8PM EST.

If you live in or near the Pittsburgh area of Pennsylvania, please join us.

 

Kids' Story Hour  with Harriet - Tuesday, April 14, from 2PM to 3PM, EST. 

Keep your braille skills sharp by reading along with Harriet as she reads
favorite stories for kids in braille. If you want to take your turn reading
in braille to the group, you can do that, too. Otherwise, follow along in
your own book or on your braille display.

 

Kernel Book Discussions with Justin - Tuesday, April 14, from 5PM to 6PM,
EST. 

Join us as we listen to and then discuss the Kernel Book story "Cutting the
Cake or Copping Out" by Brook Sexton. Here are links to the text and audio

NVDA Training with Chris - Tuesday, April 14, From 7 pm to 8 pm, EST. 

Have you ever bristled at the high cost of assistive technology software?
Come learn about NVDA, the free screen reader for Windows. In this
presentation, I will briefly explain what NVDA is, walk through installing
it, and take feedback on future topics for discussion.

Fitness and Wellness Warriors with Lily and Caitlin - Wednesday, April 15,
from 1PM to 1:30PM EST. 

Due to all of us being stuck at home during this difficult time, it is
important to boost our immune system and make sure that we are still getting
some exercise. During this fitness and wellness session we will be talking
about ways of how to boost the immune system, and about how to take care of
our mental and emotional health. We will be doing brief workouts,
meditations, and yoga over Zoom.  I have learned a lot of these techniques
during my college years of taking integrative health care courses.

Navigating the Rehabilitation System with Lynn and Special Guest -
Wednesday, April 15, from 6:30PM to 8PM EST. 

Are you a parent of a blind child? Are you a student who is about to
transition? Or are you already in a university or college program? If you
would like to learn more about navigating the vocational Rehabilitation
system as a blind student. Steve Pennington, Executive Director of the
Pennsylvania Client Assistance Program (CAP) and long-time Advocate of Blind
persons, will tell you what you need to know and will answer your questions
about Rehabilitation.

 

Pennsylvania History with the Blind History Lady - Thursday, April 16, from
1PM to 2PM EST.

Join us to learn about blind individuals in Pennsylvania's history about
whom you have probably never heard. You won't want to miss these
skillfully-told stories from the Blind History Lady. 

 

Kernel Book Discussions with Justin - Thursday, April 16, from 5PM to 6PM
EST. 

Join us as we listen to and then discuss the Kernel Book story "Mom, What

Using Smart Home Technology to make Your Home More Accessible with Rod -
Friday, April 17, From 5 pm to 6 pm EST.

This will be the first of a series on making your home more accessible
through the use of smart home technology. 

 

Braille Displays with Chris - Friday, April 17, From 7 pm to 8 pm EST.

Have you ever wondered if a Braille display is right for you? Bring your
questions and comments and lets discuss!! I will describe why and how I use
my focus 40 and try to answer any questions
