Subject: [NFBF-Leaders] NFB of Florida Your 2023 Washington Seminar
Delegation is Working Hard for You

Greetings Federation Family,

I wanted to bring everyone up to speed on some important announcements
concerning our upcoming Washington Seminar. Recently the National Federation
of the Blind of Florida Board of Directors selected the individuals who will
be traveling to Washington DC in late January to walk the halls of Congress
and begin the long and involved process of promoting our newly announced
legislative priorities.

After two years of virtual Washington Seminars, we are so excited that our
next round of meetings with Florida's 28 House members and 2 Senators will
take place in person. The 12 members of your Affiliate chosen to travel to
our nations capitol will have their work cut out for them, but we are
confident that they are up for the challenge. These individuals have worked
extremely hard within the legislative process over the past several years
and we know they will make you proud.

Please join me in congratulating:

Z'leah Liburd

Sewar Quneibi

Tashara Cooper

Karolyn Campbell

Adriann Keve

Peggy Fleischer

Sherri Brun

Doug Ingram

Denise Valkema

Camille Tate

Russ Davis

Paul Martinez

You might have recognized that the first two names on the above list are
leaders in our incredible FABS Division, we are so pleased to have these
highly intelligent and energetic students with us, (I just hope the old
timers like me can keep up with them). You may not know that the first six
names on the list are all rookies to our in person Washington Seminar
experience.

There will be a great deal of work to do before The Great Gathering In on
Monday, January 30th and in fact the work has already begun. Travel plans
need to be completed by the entire team, sub-teams needed to be built,
issues have to be studied, training sessions and mock meetings need to take
place, 30 appointments have to be scheduled and warm clothing and
comfortable shoes must be acquired, to list just a few items.

We received strong encouragement from our national office to hold as many in
person meetings as possible during this first round of meetings in early
2023, but pleas don't think that our work as an Affiliate will end with the
conclusion of appointments during the first week of February, nothing could
be further from the truth. Florida has built a reputation as one of the most
active, hard working and successful Affiliates in the nation and we don't
have any intention of letting up during the new 118th Congress. Sometime in
the early Spring we will reassess the support obtained from each of our 30
Representatives and Senators with regards to the legislative priorities
presented to them and will begin new rounds of meetings. These meetings may
occur in local district offices or virtually on Zoom. Your involvement in
these meetings will be not only valuable but critical. In 2022, we held both
Winter and Summer Washington Seminars, but next year Florida's first two
events will take place closer together to maximize the effectiveness of our
efforts.

In order to keep you connected to the legislative process, more emails will
follow this one. I will be sending out an announcement containing the 2023
National Federation of the Blind legislative priorities soon. I'll also let
you know, as we approach the kickoff of the 2023 Washington Seminar, just
how you can lend a hand a support your hard working delegation.

Thank you all so very much for all you have done and will continue to do to
move our critical legislative priorities forward and to improve the lives of
the blind in Florida and across the nation.

Very respectfully,

Russ Davis, Co-Legislative Director

National Federation of the Blind of Florida

Ph. 904-993-8433
