I believe that I have accounted for all of our members, that were planning to attend the 2024 NFBF State Convention. I am not feeling well, and will not be able to attend the State Convention this coming weekend of November 8-10, 2024. Due to the new dates of the State Convention, many of our members that were going to attend in October, are not available this coming weekend. One of our new members, Terry Suarez will be there for the Convention next week also. Melissa Loucks will be attending the convention , and Sherri Brun is not certain about her availability due to work and transportation. My doctor has changed the dosage of some of the many medications that I take daily. I am also still waiting for new glasses, because my old ones are broken. I will talk with Doug and Russ, about our Deaf Blind seminar and see if someone is willing to facilitate the program for our Diversity seminar. Thank you for your patience and understanding. This was not an easy decision for me to make because of my Seminar responsibilities. I hope that you are feeling well, and will take good care of your health . My apologies for the lateness of this email. My AOL email access, was down all week , due to technical problems. I must admit that I was lost without email access in conducting business this week. I hope that we have this issue resolved for now. Please accept my sincere apologies. Melissa Loucks will serve as the Delegate from our Chapter, and if in attendance, Sherri Brun will be the Alternate Delegate. Karolyn Campbell, Charlotte Campbell, Maggie Battis, and Tashara Cooper and Josiah Baker will not be in attendance for the Convention next week. Due to illness, as stated above, I will not be attending the Convention as well. We hope and pray that you all will have a safe and productive weekend during the activities of the 2024 State Convention in Jacksonville. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, or need additional information. About Our Voting Efforts Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act requires that blind and low-vision voters must be provided an opportunity to vote privately and independently that is equivalent to the opportunity provided to voters without disabilities. For many years the National Federation of the Blind has advocated for the right of blind and low-vision Americans to vote privately and independently, and while our efforts have resulted in much progress, we will continue our work as long as there are blind voters who are denied the private and independent exercise of their fundamental right. I just spoke with John Pare, head of our national governmental affairs team, and he ask that I make sure you all knew about our latest important legislative efforts. Please see the below email from Justin Young and follow the steps that he has outline. Even though the Thanksgiving holiday is upon us, we can all still send emails and leave voicemail messages for the Committee staff members listed below. Even if they are out for the holiday, they?ll still be checking their emails and will certainly have our messages waiting for them on Monday morning. Hope to see you all in just a few moments for our Tuesday evening Legislative Committee Zoom call. In this case, we are trying to ensure that the Transformation to Competitive Integrated Employment Act (TCIEA) is included in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) reauthorization bill that is currently being considered. Right now is a crucial time for this initiative because Congress wants to pass the WIOA reauthorization when they return after Thanksgiving. We need you to flood the email inboxes and telephone lines and voicemail boxes of four key committee staff members in order to make sure TCIEA gets included in the final bill: Amy Jones Majority Staff Director, House Committee on Education and the Workforce Amy.jones at mail.house.gov 202-225-4527 V?ronique Pluviose-Fenton Minority Staff Director, House Committee on Education and the Workforce veronique.pluviose at mail.house.gov 202-225-3725 Warren Gunnels Majority Staff Director, Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Warren_Gunnels at help.senate.gov 202-224-0767 Amanda Lincoln Minority Staff Director, Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Amanda_lincoln at help.senate.gov 202-224-5375 When you call or email, you might say something like: ?Dear [NAME]: I am urging the [HOUSE EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE COMMITTEE/SENATE HELP COMMITTEE] to please include the TCIEA in the WIOA reauthorization bill. The TCIEA will eliminate the payment of subminimum wages for people with disabilities and eliminate the need for a government program to monitor special wage certificate holders. Thank you.? If you send an email, please use the subject line ?Please Include the TCIEA in the WIOA Reauthorization? and copy Justin Young jyoung at nfb.org . Congress is working diligently to move the WIOA reauthorization bill as soon as they get back after the Thanksgiving break, so time is of the essence for us to make our voices heard. We've worked hard thus far, and it's time to have a little "ME" time, staying in prayer mode of course; but at the same time, sit back, relax & enjoy your family, be it immediate, extended or spiritual family. I have chosen to spend a little extra time bonding with my boys and granddaughter because it's easy to get caught up in your workload and exclude others unintentionally. So, I will make up for lack by watching movies together, dining, praying, needed conversations, thank you calls & calls just to say "I LOVE YOU".
