Technology Accessibility Study for A11y in Sci Research

Purpose of the Study
The A11y in Sci team is conducting research to understand what teachers know about technology accessibility, so that we can better support teachers. The purpose of this study is to understand what teachers know about using technology to construct proactively accessible high school science classes. We will use the study findings to design learning opportunities about technology accessibility that meet teachers’ needs.
Proposed Alignment with NFB Research Mission
This study will help science teachers to understand the importance of accessibility and help them how to provide accessibility in science classrooms, which will help the blind and low vision students to access science.
Inclusion Criteria
To participate in this study, you must:
Be teaching in a public high school (including schools for the blind)
Be a science teacher OR a teacher of blind and low-vision students (i.e., TVI)
Role of the Participants and Anticipated Length of the Study
Interview: 60-90 mins in early 2025
Proposed Participant Compensation
Yes, $100 gift card
Institutional Review Board (IRB) or other Ethics Group Approval
Yes, the study has been approved by an IRB at my university.

Dear Teachers,
The A11y in Sci team is conducting research to understand what teachers know about technology accessibility, so that we can better support teachers.
We need your help. If you are currently teaching in a public high school (including a school for the blind) and you are either a science teacher or teacher of blind and low-vision students (i.e., TVI) we want to learn from you.
Teachers who participate in this study will receive a $100 gift card. Participation in this study involves completing a brief web form to express interest and one 60-90 minute interview, scheduled in early 2025 at a time that is convenient for you.
According to the Illinois State University Institutional Review Board, this study meets ethical research requirements.
