Here's the Latest Action: Promoting Inclusivity and Funding-You Can Help!
The Museum of the Blind People's Movement will not only change the lives of
visitors but will spark transformation of museums and cultural institutions
across the United States.
As part of our ongoing efforts to advocate for inclusion and accessibility
in museums, the National Federation of the Blind will co-present a session
at the upcoming American Alliance of Museums annual meeting in May, the
largest conference for museum professionals in the world.
Our session, "Inclusively Planning, Concepting, and Developing a Museum from
the Ground Up," will share the innovative design process we are using to
create the Museum of the Blind People's Movement. We aim to inspire museum
professionals to adopt a proactive approach toward inclusivity, ensuring
that museums serve as welcoming, equitable spaces for all visitors.
This important work comes as the federal Institute for Museum and Library
Services was recently eliminated under a presidential executive order,
leaving the future of public funding for museums and libraries in jeopardy.
President Riccobono recently shared in a letter to Chairs and Ranking
Members of the House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittees regarding
funding for the Institute of Museum and Library Services, "It is of the
utmost importance that these critical institutions continue to be funded."
Despite uncertainty about future federal support for cultural institutions,
our commitment to building the Museum of the Blind People's Movement remains
strong.
To make the museum a reality, we rely on support from our community of
generous individual and corporate donors.
Share Prospect Opportunities with Us
We can't build the Museum of the Blind People's Movement without
you-remember, you are the key. And you can open doors by sharing your
network! Whether it's a friend, family member, colleague, or client, your
network can help us to expand financial support of the museum.
If you have someone in your circle who may be interested in the project or
may have the capacity to contribute at the honor roll-level of $10,000 or
more over a period of time, please refer them to us. Names, contact
information, and any notes you can share can be sent to
