IEP Advocacy Academy Applications Close Friday

The National Federation of the Blind (NFB) is seeking blind adults and
parents of blind or low-vision children who are looking to enhance their
knowledge of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and to assist families
with the future education of blind or low-vision students.

Parents can easily feel overwhelmed by the IEP process required to establish
special education services for their children. There are simply not enough
knowledgeable IEP advocates. To address the shortage of advocates for blind
and low-vision students across the nation, the National Federation of the
Blind, with support from the Lavelle Fund for the Blind and the Professional
Development Research and Institute on Blindness (PDRIB), is offering an
intensive IEP training opportunity.

At our IEP Advocacy Academy participants will:

*	Learn to serve as volunteer advocates in preparation for and/or
attendance at IEP meetings for blind or low-vision students.
*	Gain an understanding of education law.
*	Acquire advocacy strategies to empower parents to advocate for
students and families.

The IEP Advocacy Academy will take place in person in Baltimore, Maryland at
the National Federation of the Blind Jernigan Institute, May 29-June 1,
2025. Travel, meals, and overnight accommodations will be provided for
selected applicants.

About National Federation of the Blind Education Initiatives

The National Federation of the Blind (NFB) knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines the future of blind and low-vision youth.
Through our extensive education programs, we present blind children with new
ideas, expose teachers and families to our positive philosophy on blindness,
and encourage blind youth to reach their full potential. For more
information about our education programs, please contact us at
