Subject: [NFBF-Leaders] Youth Participation Protection Policy
Greetings Presidents and Vice Presidents:
The National Federation of the Blind of Florida Board of Directors passed a
Youth Participation Protection Policy on April 27, 2025. This policy is now
in effect unless or until the National Federation of the Blind or the
National Federation of the Blind of Florida Board of Directors passes a
future policy. All members of the National Federation of the Blind of
Florida must abide by this policy when creating or hosting events for
children. In addition, at our last Presidents Committee call, there is a
training module that must be completed prior to any person, regardless of
membership status, that will be working on projects that include children.
If your chapter or division is planning any events or projects that are for
children, including BELL Academy, STEM2U programs or any other events
designed for children must be shared with the Board of Directors of the
National Federation of the Blind of Florida. No such projects may move
forward without the requirements under this Youth Policy being satisfied.
Additionally, certain other requirements must be met, including background
checks of all individuals participating in such events, interviews of
potential participation by all persons involved in these events or projects
are also required. We will update all of you regarding the logistics of
obtaining background checks, interviews and selection of participants of any
programs or events under the National Federation of the Blind of Florida.
I have attached the Youth Policy to this email. It requires all participants
to acknowledge and sign receipt and understanding of this policy and must be
filed in a safe place. We encourage outreach to parents of blind children so
they may grow up in and come to know the National Federation of the Blind.
Let us all work together to grow our affiliate!
Please contact me with any questions or comments.
Camille Tate, president
National Federation of the Blind of Florida
Board of Directors
