Dear Federation Family,
On august 5 I shared that two members of the tampa bay
chapter and the florida Association of guide Dog Users had contracted
COVID-19. Apparently Les's wife Mae contracted the virus at an imaging site
where she had gone for a conoloscopy. Her daughter, Angelique Mitchell,
drove her to the appointment since driving is not recommended after the
procedure. Both mae and Angelique contracted the virus and, in turn,
infected Les. Les told me his symptoms were fairly mild; however, they kept
him in the hospital for two weeks. Mae and Angelique were not as fortunate
and required intubation. I am very sad to share that Mae Demers lost her
battle with the Coronavirus on Friday afternoon at 1:55 and her daughter,
Angelique made her transition on Saturday at 1:18 p.m. nearly twenty-four
hours after her mom.
A very sad sequel to this already miserable story is that,
due to the strain of resources brought on by this pandemic, mae and
Angelique must remain at the hospital morgue for more than two weeks because
all the public morgues and crematoriums have no room to store the bodies.
There is also a shortage of urns, necessitating an even longer wait for les
to collect his wife and daughters remains and schedule an inurnment in
Georgia. Please keep all of les's family in your thoughts and prayers that
the Universe eases Les's pain and allows all of us to find a greater plan
for humanity through all this pain and suffering.
With warm regards,
Marion
