Have any one of you received this proposal? It’s a good idea in different parts of town. I’m thinking of the USF area, HCC, and wherever Freedom Guide Dogs are trained.

Good morning, Luisa☺

Hope this email finds you doing well! You probably know about this pilot program already. But just in case you don’t, see email below and attachment regarding a pilot program for accessible pedestrian signals with Bluetooth sound activation. This is awesome for travelers!

Blessings!

Subject: seeking input for a pilot project

Dear Colleagues with DBS, Tampa Lighthouse for the Blind and Low Vision, Mayor’s Alliance, NFB, and Disability Rights.

The City’s Mobility team (team which oversees the Public Right-of-Way) is launching a pilot project with aBeacon. This is an accessible pedestrian signal with Bluetooth sound activation. The system is activated on demand by those who need it when crossing an intersection. Brief details on the product are provided below. As the initial part of this pilot project we are targeting a location in downtown as well as near the Tampa Lighthouse for the Blind and Low Vision. We are interested in your feedback on a logical location where this product may be most helpful for community members with visual disabilities. As an example, would an intersection near the Marion Transit Center be the most helpful option for those working or traveling to downtown for business/pleasure? What downtown intersection would you recommend?

Your feedback will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,
