Tampa Bay Chapter
National Federation of the Blind of Florida
Chapter Meeting Minutes
June 27, 2026
Beef O'Brady's
8810 North Himes Avenue
Tampa Florida
The meeting was called to order by President Debby Malone at 12:05pM.
Everyone introduced themselves. There were a total of seven members in attendance, five in person and 2 via Zoom. We also welcomed two guests, Gavin and his father.
Jorge led us in the NFB pledge.
Debby recited the NFB's One Minute Message.
Secretary and Treasurer Reports
The minutes were tabled.
Dan gave the treasurer’s report. Our current balance is $5,575.39.
President’s Report
Debby announced that Tampa's ADA celebration will be held on Friday, July 24, at the Straz Center. A proclamation supporting the ADA will be given on July 15.
In the Texas vs. Kennedy lawsuit, We still need everyone to continue writing or calling the Governor and Attorney General's offices to urge that Florida drop out of this lawsuit. Florida is one of a very fews states remaining in support of it.
Sherri urged everyone to attend the upcoming open State Board meeting. Debby will send out a reminder.
Debby mentioned that our July social activity in July will be bowling at Pin Chasers on the 12th. The cost is $15 per person.
Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser
Dan has worked hard to create both our flyers and tickets. The tickets will cost $10 each. We will need volunteers to sign up for our Carrollwood Publix event on July 18. We will be sure to bring a box for donations. Jorge volunteered to bring the coffee for the pancake breakfast, and will ask Dunkin' Donuts if they would be willing to donate it.
NFB State Convention
The convention will take place from October 9 through October 12, and will be held at the Southbank Hotel in Jacksonville. Debby said we need to think about items to donate for the auction fundraiser. A motion was made by Dan, seconded by Thomas, that the chapter contribute $200 for door prizes for the convention. The motion passed.
Debby said the deadline for submitting an application for a student scholarship is August 15.
Debby said we will do a price comparison for new chapter T-shirts, since Jorge also has a connection to someone who sells them.
As they did last year, the Lighthouse is holding a walk/educational event on November 7 at Macfarlane Park. We will need to decide whether to join them as a group or to participate on our own.
Our next meeting will be held on July 25, following our Pancake Breakfast fundraiser.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:03PM.
Respectfully submitted

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise expectations because low expectations create barriers between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want! Blindness is not what holds you back.
