Hello again,
And here's what your hardworking Board was doing on the evening of St.
Patrick's Day!
Sherrill
Tampa Bay Chapter
National Federation of the Blind of Florida
Board Meeting minutes
March 17, 2026
The chapter held elections at its February meeting, and the following
members make up our Board:
Officers and Board Members
President Debby Malone
Vice President Adriane Curmon
Secretary Sherrill O'Brien
Treasurer Dan Hicks
Board Member 1 Yvonne Rosanelli
Board Member 2 Thomas Dukeman
Board Member 3 Luis Perez
The Board meeting was called to order by President Debby Malone at 7:10pm.
All were present.
Following introductions, Debby said she is working with NFB mailing list
administrator David Andrews to resolve our chapter's mailing list issues.
It was decided that Debby, Dan and Sherrill will meet as soon as possible to
produce an up-to-date chapter membership list.
Luis explained to us that the recent generous donations to our chapter from
him and his wife Ana are the result of charitable contributions given by the
company for which Ana works. Debby thanked them on behalf of the chapter.
Following discussion, a motion was made by Dan, seconded by Tom, that the
president of our chapter be given a Google Voice phone number for NFB
business. The motion passed.
We discussed a proposal which Tom brought to us on behalf of the Students
Division of NFBF. They were asking whether they could join with us in our
July Pancake Breakfast fundraiser. Debby said we could open a dialogue about
it,, and that perhaps the students could learn about how a fundraiser of
this type is done. Debby brought up the fact that the students are scattered
throuout the state, so a broader statewide fundraiser might be a good
option. Tom will report this to the group and get more information for us.
Yvonne said she continues to research activities for the chapter such as
musicals at the Straz, martial arts, and pottery workshops. Our Zoo Tampa
event is scheduled for March 31 and includes a tactile component.
Adriane suggested we think about activities related to health and exercise
such as tandem biking. She said we might want to reach out to the Parks and
Recreation Department, who don't have experience in working with blind
people, though they do have better communication with, and understanding of,
those in wheelchairs. She mentioned that we would then possibly be able to
teach them about how to work with blind people.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:00pm.
Respectfully submitted
Sherrill O'Brien, Secretary
Tampa Bay Chapter, NFBF
