National Federation Of The Blind: McDonald’s And National Federation Of The Blind Collaborate On Self-Service Kiosks
The National Federation of the Blind, America’s civil rights organization of the blind, and McDonald’s USA announce a collaboration to make McDonald’s self-service kiosks in company-owned, U.S. restaurants even more accessible to customers who are blind. McDonald’s USA’s company-owned restaurants will implement these enhancements by December 31, 2021. Using new and advanced technology, enhancements to existing accessibility features include screen-reading software, tactile keypads and the ability for customers to connect their headphones or ear buds to the kiosk and independently place their orders by responding to audio prompts.

Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB) and The Seeing Eye (TSE) of Morristown, N.J., two of North America’s leading guide dog schools, have joined forces to create a training video to help airline and airport employees better assist travelers who are visually impaired, with a special focus on how to address the social distancing guidelines during the Pandemic. The video includes best practices and tips for assisting travelers who are blind or visually impaired, including navigating the airport and TSA while social distancing.
 
QNS: Queens Theatre To Offer Virtual Training Program For Deaf And Disabled Actors
Due to the pandemic, this year’s workshops and events will be hosted virtually. The virtual workshops — taught by disabled and non-disabled industry professionals, including actors Brigid Brady, Christine Bruno, Clark Jackson, Diana Jordan and Marilee Talkington —  run from Sunday, June 20, through Thursday, July 1, and will focus on auditioning, acting, improvisation, musical theater, voice and movement.

Blind people say AccessiBe, which is supposed to automatically make websites more compatible with the screen readers blind people rely on to access the internet, has prevented them from all sorts of normal activities online, like paying rent, teaching a class or buying Christmas gifts.
