[Nfbj] Blindness and shemirat negiah

Hello,
I actually wondered whether guiding blind people collides with being shomer 
negiah. An Orthodox rabbi who once taught me always offered me his arm when 
we went somewhere, and I was very happy about that. Do you know whether 
there is anything written on this subject, or whether the Talmud says 
anything? What are your experiences with those situations, when you need a 
hand but there's no one of your sex around? Did people ever say "no"?
