[Nfbj] Introduction and getting to know fellow members

Hi Kristen,
It was I who mentioned a teleconference support group my friend and I are starting. It is not affiliated with the NFB and we do want the appropriateness of the content to meet Orthodox standards-it's up to anyone who would like to join to decide if it's for them. Regarding this listserve, I might forward Orthodox related events and resources, but I have no problem if anyone from other affiliations discuss other things and resources. Thank you!

Hello everyone,

Really nice to see all the discussion on the list. I'm not sure if the suggestion about keeping discussions orthodox related to this list or if that was a comment regarding the project of a friend of this list. Since we all come from different approaches to Judaism, I think it will be important to keep in mind that everyone has a valid voice in NFB in Judaism forums. With the knowledge that we may not all practice the same way and will need to be respectful of differences, I'd love to see the posts you are discussing. Thank you to everyone for your enthusiasm!

Hi and shavuah tov, Rachel,

I think it would be a fantastic idea to include a line for Jewish men. I’d be glad to help in anyway I can with that. I’m glad to see that, thanks to Amanda, this list is actually not completely dead. Let’s keep it that way. Maybe each of us, you, Amanda and I, can take turns each week picking a topic, either from the parshat ha-shavuah or some other Jewish-related topic, and starting a discussion. When more people start talking on the list, they can start picking topics as well. What are your thoughts? Amanda, feel free to weigh in here as well.

We agreed that as long as participants are open to keeping the conversations to Orthodox standards, anyone can join. Now that I see your e-mail, I'm thinking of asking my friend to start another line for Jewish men. We have a list of possible participants to start with already. What do you think?

I am always interested in talking with other blind Jews, especially orthodox Jews, so feel free to contact me anytime. There used to be a wonderful resource for Blind Jews called Yismahu, but I believe it was shut down due to lack of funds. Personally, I would love to see some more activity on this list.
