November and December events at the Museum of the American Printing House for the Blind
November 27, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Family Day Open House
Looking for a place to bring friends and family who are visiting for Thanksgiving? Our museum will host a free Family Day Open House on Saturday, November 27, from 10:00am - 3:00pm. Visitors can write their names in braille, see the book of Psalms from Helen Keller's Bible, play a computer game designed for children who are blind, and view "Denver the Guide Dog," a Discovery Channel video about how a puppy becomes a dog guide and is matched with a new owner. Guests can also explore the new collection of white canes, dog harnesses, sonar and other electronic devices used as travel aids by people who are blind. Refreshments will include braille fortune cookies and a code key so visitors can decipher what they say. This event is free to the public; no registration is needed.
December 4, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
Holiday Card Factory
The winter holiday season can be a delight to the senses: the smell of evergreen trees, the crackle of wrapping paper, the taste of family treats, and the sounds of holiday tunes. Why should your holiday cards be any different? Join us for a tactile holiday card making workshop to celebrate the spirit of Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanza, and add a message in braille. Free to the public but space is limited, so registration is required. Best for adults and children in first grade and up. Contact us now to reserve your space. Call 899-2213 by
December 2 to register.
