[Nfbk] State Convention

Thanks Steve! The one TVI at Central has told me she has nothing to do with
Braille transcription at Central. I know how hectic things are in the
resource room and I can't imagine much proofing being done at all. I am
pretty confident in saying that Doug doesn't have anyone proofing his work.
I have heard a couple of horror stories. I do know that we have teachers who
Braille for their students on a daily basis, thank God for that. I was lucky
enough to have their expertise when I was TRYING to transcribe the physics
book. Experience has taught me that this job isn't easy and I know Braille.
How can one possibly produce a good product without the knowledge. I believe
that the district should require both of them to take a class, either
through Hadley or U of L. I seriously doubt that JCPS would pay for a proof
reader.

Cathy,

I no longer go to Central and cannot speak for the Braille "team," but I do
know how to produce, proof-read, correct and format Braille (including
Algebra 2) for my student at Atherton. I'm just wondering if there is a
certified Braille specialist available for JCPS employment or if JCPS is
willing to pay the going rate.

P. S. There are 2 full-time TVI's and one itinerant TVI who specializes in
math at Central, and one "Braille" clerk, plus another "Braille" clerk at
Ahrens. There is another itinerant TVI, a former KSB math teacher, who goes
to other schools and knows how to produce correct literary Braille and
Nemeth code.

Steve are you still at Central? Sharon Davis left me with the impression
that the four teachers there are proofing the material.
