Seminars at Hadley Presents: Comfort Foods Made Easy

Date: Tuesday, February 8, 2011

Time: 2:00 p.m. CST, 20:00 GMT

There are times when a little “comfort food” is exactly what we want, whether
it’s beaver tail pastries in Canada, bangers and mash in the U.K., congee in
China or grilled cheese sandwiches and chicken noodle soup in the United
States. Typically defined as inexpensive and simply prepared, comfort food is
often associated with a sense of home or contentment. Do you have a favorite?

Presenters Patti Jacobson, Linn Sorge and Brenda Rice will discuss their
favorite comfort foods, spicing it up with food preparation tips that work for
the cook with a visual impairment. Crockpot, microwave and other approaches
will be discussed.

Moderator Dawn Turco will share some global ideas of comfort food (and a few of
her favorites) during this 60 minute seminar. We will build a resource list
for sharing our favorites!

New Courses @ Hadley

We are pleased to annouce the debut of two new courses, "Self-Employment with a
Minimal Investment" and "The Essentials of the Nemeth Code."

The Nemeth Code for mathematics and science notation allows people to read and
write technical materials in braille. Hadley’s new “The Essentials of the
Nemeth Code” provides the symbols, rules and formatting needed for reading a
math or science textbook and using the Nemeth Code for completing homework or
other calculations. After having learned the basics, students can then learn
the symbols used in more advanced mathematics. This course is open to ACE and
High School program students. Sighted family members and professionals are
welcome to enroll in Hadley’s course, “Basic Nemeth Code.” For more information
on either course or to register, follow these links:

“Self-Employment with a Minimal Investment” focuses on small businesses that
involve an investment of $500 or less. This informational course guides
students through the exploratory processes of starting a small business. The
lessons inspire and encourage while remaining realistic about expectations, as
students determine if self-employment is a realistic pursuit for them. It
presents the basics of discovering a business idea, preparing a budget and
developing business and marketing plans, as well as information about
disability programs and benefits. This course is open to students in all four
programs. For more information or to register, follow these links:
