[Nfbk] question about nls bard

Yes, it makes your drive run parallel to the unit instead of sticking
straight out. I like using both a USB and cartridges. I download things from
Bard and put directly on the USB. Then, when my library sends me cartridges,
while the player is off, pop in the cartridge to hear the description, turn
off the player, pop out the cartridge, turn the player back on and I am
right where I left off in the book on the USB drive.

I like to read non-fiction when I am cleaning the house and can concentrate
on it to a degree. But, at night, I like to listen to fiction as I fall
asleep. By using both methods to access books, I have them easily
switchable. I can also switch between books on the USB drive and it
remembers where I am in both books, too.

What exactly is that?  I'm confused because I wasn't aware that something
like that is available.  Does it reposition the USB drive to be more flush
with the player?  I've used both the USB drives in the port on the side of
the player and the cartridges.  I'm interested in how this works.

If that is what you are talking about, I got mine through my regional NLS
library. I'm in Indiana across from Louisville, but I believe you would call
the state Library in Frankfort and ask them about it. There may have been a
limit on the number given to each state, so they may or may not still be
available. I have used mine for well over a year now.

Personally, I prefer using the NLS cartridges that you can purchase from the
American Printing House for the Blind.  They cost $12.  I like these better
than a thumb drive because they go in the front of the player as opposed to
the side.  I often carry my player around the house, and when I use a thumb
drive, I have bumped it into things because it sticks out the side.  I know
that some have been successful at putting a thumb drive into the front of
the player, but I have not.  The APH cartridges are 2 gig, and I can get
approximately 15 books on one cartridge, depending on the size of the book,
of course.  I have multiple cartridges and plan to keep some books
permanently; however, I have others that i add and delete books from.  The
cost isn't much more than a thumb drive, and it just works best for me.
