MessageWhen I buy socks I try to buy mostly black and several pairs that are just alike.  For other colors, I try to get different textures.  If they are the same, I keep them safety pinned together when they are not on my feet.  It's a pain, but it can work.

  I'm a little late getting back to this topic, but I do like Lora's idea of snipping the tags a certain way for colors. That would help with my navy, black, and brown pants but my socks black and brown socks are still a problem since they don't have tags.

    This doesn't have to do with labeling clothing, but since laundry came up, I thought I'd tell everyone on the list about Shout Color Catchers.  They are sort of like dryer sheets, but you throw them in the washer with your clothes.  If dye comes out of the fabric, especially if you are washing something for the first time, the dye sticks to the fabric of the sheet instead of being dispersed throughout the water and back into other clothing.  I've used these for seven or eight years, even before I became totally blind.  I can tell you that they work.  I washed a new pair of pants that were a dark aqua blue, and the cloth came out of the washer the same color as the pants.  I use these on a regular basis with my laundry now.  It's just a little bit of extra insurance, just in case I accidentally get my colors mixed up in the laundry.  

    As far as labeling my clothing, I haven't found a perfect way either.  I try to keep things that match together, and I snip the tags in my clothing in various ways to indicate color families.  When you are blind, you just have to have a good memory and a few tricks up your sleeve.

      The file card system that you mention works very well if someone can see well enough to recognize the color of the laundry when it comes out of the dryer and then put it on the right hanger with the right card - or if someone has a sighted person available who puts the card on the correct garment hanger when the garment comes out of the dryer. The advantage of the Teflon tape and the metal color labels is that they stay pinned to the garment in the washer and dryer. A blind person does not need help to reattach the labels after the clothing is washed. Other audible systems that can be used to keep on clothes while being laundered are the PenFriend, Touch Memo, Sherlock, and those made by EnvisionAmerica and some bar code apps for cell phones. The common factor is that the label material can go through the washer and dryer without ruining the label.

      Hello,  At this time I do not need to use any sort of tagging system for my cloths, but I do have any idea that may be less expensive until you figure out exactly what will be best for you.  How about just using index cards with a braille description of the garment and poking a hole for the hanger hook.

      I have a question not sure if it is appropriate for this list, I use to use a Teflon tape for labeling my clothes, I called several places and they tell me that it is discontinued, how does someone that is totally blind label their clothes, is there another tape that I could use or maybe a different system, I really did not want to buy Braille metal labels.
