Yes...perfect! I wasn’t thinking of the laundry process!

Hi Nickie,

The file card system that you mention works very well if someone can see well enough to recognize the color of the laundry when it comes out of the dryer and then put it on the right hanger with the right card – or if someone has a sighted person available who puts the card on the correct garment hanger when the garment comes out of the dryer. The advantage of the Teflon tape and the metal color labels is that they stay pinned to the garment in the washer and dryer. A blind person does not need help to reattach the labels after the clothing is washed. Other audible systems that can be used to keep on clothes while being laundered are the PenFriend, Touch Memo, Sherlock, and those made by EnvisionAmerica and some bar code apps for cell phones. The common factor is that the label material can go through the washer and dryer without ruining the label.

Hope this makes sense.

Best,\

Terrie

Hello, At this time I do not need to use any sort of tagging system for my cloths, but I do have any idea that may be less expensive until you figure out exactly what will be best for you. How about just using index cards with a braille description of the garment and poking a hole for the hanger hook.

Just my two cents! Hope you have a great day!

Nickie

Here is the source. They had a lot when I bought mine from them.

Wisconsin Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired

Toll Free:

1-800-783-5213

http://wcblind.org/index.php

This is an agency providing rehabilitation services and selling relevant products to persons who are blind or have low vision. It is not affiliated with ACB, just has a similar name.

Hi Kathy and everyone,

The Teflon tape has been discontinued. However, I know of one store that still has a bunch left. I bought 10 rolls from them a month ago. I have their contact info at work. I will get it and send to this list this evening. I can tell you also that the American Printing House for the Blind is researching this product. I am the Adult Life Project Leader in APH’s Research Department, and we are going to need some testers in the next several months. If any of you are interested in testing, please email me at:

tterlau at aph.org

To test, we would send you tape and safety pins, you would use it, wash and dry clothing with it, and answer a few questions in the format of your choice.

I too love this tape and don’t know what I would do without it. There are also the metal color labels that have Braille and large print color names on them, but you can’t customize those.

Please contact me at my above APH email address if you are interested in testing the tape, and also I will put the address of the place that still has it on the list tonight.

Best,

Terrie

Good evening,

I have a question not sure if it is appropriate for this list, I use to use a Teflon tape for labeling my clothes, I called several places and they tell me that it is discontinued, how does someone that is totally blind label their clothes, is there another tape that I could use or maybe a different system, I really did not want to buy Braille metal labels.

Kathy
