Kathy,
I believe that is an option in O&M instruction. If that is the kind of
training you need, than I think that chould be done. I would pose that
question to your consular.

Nicki

In going to the Charles mcdowell center I have had cane training, but I need
updated training and such, do you know if they work with you on teaching you
how to ride the public transportation and such?

Hi Kathy!
Blind people reside in all corners of Louisville, depending on their
living/family situation. Louisville does have a good transit system &
reaches to surrounding counties. The Paratransit system though, has
restrictions, such as, limited to drop offs/pick ups no more than 3/4 mile
of a fixed route bus in Louisville (Jefferson County) If moving to
Louisville is an option for you, you’ll just have to research an area to see
if it fits your lifestyle & needs. I’d be more than happy to help you with
that, if/when the time comes.
Other popular places in Ky that appeal to you are, Lexington, Frankfort,
Ashland. Although these cities are great & offer a great deal, you will
find Louisville offers more in the way of transit, employment, entertainment
etc. With that being said, Louisville will be a higher cost of living.
Each of these cities have a NFB chapter too.

Thanks!
Nickie

Subject: [Nfbk] some question

Good morning all,

I wanted to find out what part of Louisville or surrounding cities that
blind people are living, I am new with all of this, currently living with my
sister way way out in the country, wanting to be more independent and have
friends but not sure where to start. I also have a very small poodle so I am
looking for somewhere that allows pets too, my husband passed away last year
so my life is up and down and looking to move forward, my little poodle is
not a guide dog but can not get rid of him, but want to learn how to be more
independent with using my cane. Any help or guidance is appreciated .

Kathy
