Kathy,
As a recent graduate of the McDowell Center, I can tell you that when you get your Orientation & Mobility training, Kent will teach you whatever you think you need or want.
The deciding factor will be, will you use, and will you be in a place to practice and use your skills.
For instance, if you do not come to the city, or you do not have access to public transportation, he is not likely to go in depth with you.
However, if you move here, and you have to walk or ride a bus to places, you will learn, and practice those skills once you get to that level.
It will take you a long time to get used to the hustle & bustle, and you will get lost, and confused. You just have to continue to believe in yourself, and trust Kent to listen to you and not be afraid to ask questions.
Also, be aware that you WILL have to wait a while for O & M. Kent is very good and thorough and usually has a waiting list.

: Hi Kathy!
: Blind people reside in all corners of Louisville, depending on their
living/family situation. Louisville does have a good transit system &
reaches to surrounding counties. The Paratransit system though, has
restrictions, such as, limited to drop offs/pick ups no more than 3/4 mile
of a fixed route bus in Louisville (Jefferson County) If moving to
Louisville is an option for you, you’ll just have to research an area to see
if it fits your lifestyle & needs. I’d be more than happy to help you with
that, if/when the time comes.
: Other popular places in Ky that appeal to you are, Lexington, Frankfort,
Ashland. Although these cities are great & offer a great deal, you will
find Louisville offers more in the way of transit, employment, entertainment
etc. With that being said, Louisville will be a higher cost of living.
: Each of these cities have a NFB chapter too.
:
: Thanks!

:
: Good morning all,
:
:
:
: I wanted to find out what part of Louisville or surrounding cities that
blind people are living, I am new with all of this, currently living with my
sister way way out in the country, wanting to be more independent and have
friends but not sure where to start. I also have a very small poodle so I am
looking for somewhere that allows pets too, my husband passed away last year
so my life is up and down and looking to move forward, my little poodle is
not a guide dog but can not get rid of him, but want to learn how to be more
independent with using my cane. Any help or guidance is appreciated .
