> Wendover, Utah (August 21, 2014): The National Federation of the Blind today announced that member Dan Parker, who was blinded in a drag-racing accident in 2012, will attempt a motorcycle speed record on the famed Bonneville Salt Flats as part of this year’s Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials. The National Federation of the Blind is sponsoring Mr. Parker’s continuing “Quest for the Salt.” Mr. Parker will operate a three-wheeled motorcycle, which he constructed himself, with the aid of a GPS system that gives him audible cues in order to help him maintain a straight course. The GPS system was designed and built by engineer Patrick Johnson. Last year, Mr. Parker completed a two-mile run on the Salt Flats, reaching an officially recorded top speed of 55.331 mph. This year, on August 25, he hopes to set a speed record for the 51-85 cc two-stroke cycle-car class.
