​The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), Office of Next-Generation Learners, Division of Learning Services, Kentucky School for the Blind, in Louisville, (Jefferson County) has an opening for an Orientation and Mobility Teacher.
​
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Provide sequential instruction to students at Kentucky School for the Blind (KSB) with visual impairment in the use of their remaining senses to determine their position within the environment and in techniques for safe movement from one place to another.
 
Prepare lessons for delivery of orientation and mobility instruction.
 
Develop and implement Individual Education Programs (IEP’s) for assigned students.
 
Prepare IEP progress monitoring reports of student progress on IEP goals at required intervals throughout the school year.
 
Implement instruction consistent with characteristics of highly effective teaching and learning.
 
Be evaluated on the current state adopted teacher evaluation tool.
 
Earn 36 hours of professional development annually.
 
Communicate with parents regarding student achievement and behavior.
 
Serve on school committees as required by the School Based Decision Making Council (SBDM).
 
Understand and follow all school, state and federal policies regarding the education of students with disabilities.
 
Implement behavior intervention plans, including behavioral intervention, toileting and seizure plans.
 
Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
 
Possess ACVREP Certification as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist AND must possess a teaching certificate or certification to teach students who are Blind/Visually Impaired.

CDL Preferred not required.
 
In accordance with KRS 161.220 the applicant selected for this position will become a member of the Kentucky Teachers’ Retirement System.
 
2013-14 Salary: Dependent upon qualifications, training, and experience.
