Shaun Preece

We all know that unemployment is an issue in the blind community, and with this can come issues of low self esteem, poor social inclusion and of course financial problems. In this Spotlight interview Garth talks to Subhashish Acharya and Amanda Heal from Project Starfish. This international movement aims to allow blind / disabled people to learn, earn and grow while also building an understanding with businesses of what talents we have to offer. Here's a little excerpt from their website.
Project Starfish is entirely a new socio-economic business model, that intends to reduce the rate of unemployment among the blind/disabled. It is scalable, repeatable, predictable, results driven and the more we do it creates business impact and social impact simultaneously. It creates new jobs that never existed, it helps expand the country’s economy, also expands the number of jobs in the arena of blind workers which never existed.
At Project Starfish here is what we do :
We groom and create highly employable, multi-experienced, multi skilled, business ready blind professionals. They come in with half a page of resume and leave with Experience, Recommendation, Hands on Learning, Management skills and of course money!
This is a very worthwhile project and all of us at Cool Blind Tech send our respect and thanks to all those involved.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can have the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back. NFB.ORG
