Please welcome our newest OFB  employee, Becke Gayheart, who began working
yesterday as a VR Counselor in the Prestonsburg office. She is filling the
position left vacant by Norma McCormick's retirement.  Becke is originally
from Knott County and is a graduate of Knott Central.  After high school she
moved to Ohio where she obtained an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood
Education while working full time as a preschool teacher at Headstart. She
was later promoted to area manager for Headstart and then returned to school
and obtained her Bachelor's Degree in Human Services at Urbana University.
After graduation, Becke accepted a position as Director of a Family and
Youth Center where she worked for 4 years.  While working at the Youth
Center, she said she saw the desperate need for services for youth with
disabilities in her community.  Becke applied for a position with
Rehabilitation Services Commission (now Opportunities for Ohioans with
Disabilities) and was hired as a Transitional VR Counselor.  She said she
found her passion working with OOD.  She was with that agency just over six
years when her father passed away in Kentucky. In order to be closer to
family, she chose to move back to Kentucky.  

 

Since August 2015, Becke has worked at the Kentucky River Community Care as
a Service Coordinator within the Knott County schools.  She has two
children, a son 24, and a daughter, 13.  In her spare time Becke said she
enjoys doing the simple things in life such as spending time with her
children, playing board games and Old Maid and attempting to help her
grandparents, ages 84 and 86, with their garden. She said she is excited to
be working as a VR counselor again and looks forward to meeting the rest of
the OFB staff in the future.
