community.
As a local chapter of the National Federation of the Blind, we are dedicated
to empowering blind individuals to achieve independence, pursue educational
opportunities, and engage fully in their communities. Proceeds from this
event will directly support programs such as the Mittie Lake Memorial
Scholarship for blind college students and the Braille Enrichment for
Literacy and Learning (NFB BELLR) Academy, as well as advocacy efforts
promoting accessibility and inclusion.
Angela Henderson, President of the National Federation of the Blind of
Kentucky, says, "Blindness is not the characteristic that defines who we
are. Continued funding for our local chapter will ensure funding for
programs that promote independence for the blind of Louisville, as well as
to foster opportunities for blind individuals to thrive within the
community. College students who are awarded scholarships may continue to
learn and aspire to reach their goals and allow them to live the lives they
want."
About the National Federation of the Blind
We advance the lives of our members and all blind people in the United
States. The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. Our collective power, determination,
and diversity achieve the aspirations of all blind people.
