[NFBK] NFB Kentucky Talks: Canes and Conversation

Greetings Kentucky federationists!

  I invite you to our May 2026 NFB of Kentucky  Talks: Canes and Conversation Event which takes place on Thursday, May 14th at 8:00 PM Eastern/7:00PM Central on Zoom.  Our topic this month is of utmost importance to all blind individuals across the country.  Our conversation topic is the current attack on Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. We will be discussing what this legislation is and why it is important to us as blind individuals. The National Federation of the Blind has a longstanding history of fighting for the rights of the blind.   The change the government is making to the Rehabilitation Act will adversely impact the lives of disabled individuals and is a huge set-back to the work the Federation has done to enhance the lives of the blind.  Dr. Jacobus tenBroek,  the founder and first president of the National Federation of the Blind, was the pioneer of disability law. His work and especially his 1966  article  written for the California Law Review entitled “The Right to Live in the World” helped influence disability law as we know it today. We hope to engage in lively conversation about our rights as disabled individuals and what we must do to maintain these rights.
