(June 10, 2014) - The Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC) and the Kentucky Office of Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR) will hold a public hearing from 2-4:30 p.m. Thursday, July 10, concerning a proposed change to the State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL). The public hearing is at the Department of Transportation building, 200 Mero St., conference room C107 B, in Frankfort.</span></p><p style="margin: 8px 0px 17px;"><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">The proposed change is the addition of the following statement to Section 3.2 of the plan:</span></p><p style="margin: 8px 0px 17px;"><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">“In the case of a Part C grant being relinquished or terminated, it is the desire of the state that a competition be held so that a new Center for Independent Living can be established in the relinquished/terminated grant’s service area.”</span></p><p style="margin: 8px 0px 17px;"><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">The three-year plan is designed to increase awareness, effectiveness and access to independent living services for Kentuckians with disabilities and to promote advocacy activities.
