TARC has announced proposed service changes schedule to take effect January 26, 2025. The proposed changes include:
<ul>
<li style="mso-line-height-rule: exactly;-ms-text-size-adjust: 100%;-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;">Three route discontinuations (the #22, the #52, and the #63)</li>
<li style="mso-line-height-rule: exactly;-ms-text-size-adjust: 100%;-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;">Two route consolidations to absorb coverage of discontinued routes (changes to the #18 18<sup>th</sup> Street to cover the discontinuation of the #22, and #29 Eastern Parkway to cover the discontinuation of the #63)</li>
<li style="mso-line-height-rule: exactly;-ms-text-size-adjust: 100%;-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;">Routing reductions (the #17 Bardstown and #25 Oak Street)</li>
<li style="mso-line-height-rule: exactly;-ms-text-size-adjust: 100%;-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;">Frequency reductions (the #4 4<sup>th</sup> Street and #10 Dixie Highway will go from every 15 minutes to every 20 minutes)</li>
<li style="mso-line-height-rule: exactly;-ms-text-size-adjust: 100%;-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;">Assorted other changes, including an increase in frequency on the #25 Oak Westport Crosstown, #29 Eastern Parkway and #40 Taylorsville Road to reduce the impact of the changes on TARC customers.</li>

TARC is proposing these reductions for two important reasons:
<ul>
<li style="mso-line-height-rule: exactly;-ms-text-size-adjust: 100%;-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;"><strong><u>A more reliable TARC</u></strong>: TARC service is not sufficiently reliable. A major reason is that TARC has too many routes with very low ridership and not enough operators to consistently operate them. The planned service reductions aim to enhance TARC’s reliability, providing a more dependable transit experience for customers.</li>
<li style="mso-line-height-rule: exactly;-ms-text-size-adjust: 100%;-webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;"><strong><u>TARC’s fiscal cliff</u></strong>: Earlier this year, TARC projected a $30 million deficit by mid-2026 in if action is not taken before then. These proposed reductions are anticipated to save $4 million annually.</li>
