Thanks so much Tonia for the updates! I met Buffa at my first National convention in 2002-we sat beside each other in the River Grill. So good to hear she is keeping her spirits up and ready to get moving again! Will check out the caring bridge app-have used the site many times for other friends and loved ones. Take care!

Blessings,

Subject: [Nfbktad] Update on Buffa

For those of you who don't already know, Buffa Hanse was recently hit by a car while crossing a major intersection and sustained some pretty severe injuries; including bleeding on the brain and numerous broken bones (facial bones, arm, wrist, ribs, both legs and ankle). I talked to her for the first time today and she actually sounded quite good considering... In typical "Buffa" fashion, she's ready to get on with it; and is eager to recover and get back to work. All of her surgeries seem to have gone well.
She's on strong pain meds but says she's not worried about the pain. She's more concerned about having to use a wheelchair when she returns to work.
That's our Buffa!

She says she's not allowed to put any weight on her leg for at least 8 to 12 weeks and she can't use her left arm at all right now.

Today she is being moved to a skilled nursing facility for several weeks of rehab. She hates that she's having to go to a "nursing home"; but apparently she needs more rehab than what her insurance would pay for at an actual rehab facility. I'll forward the new contact info when I get it.

A friend from Buffa's synagogue has set up a page for her on caringbridge.org. This is a site where you can view updates on her condition and leave messages for her. Just do a search for her name and a link will come up to her page. Just a note though: you do have to set up an account. Also, there is a Caring Bridge mobile app for the iPhone. I'm not sure about android. She said someone is reading the messages people post to her; and she really seemed to enjoy hearing everybody's get well wishes.
So, I encourage you to sign up and leave her a note; since it's such an easy way for us to get updates and keep in touch with her.

I am still collecting money for a gift and probably won't get it out in the mail to her until next week; since I have to wait until I get the address of the nursing facility. So, if you haven't already and would like to contribute, you can either bring me cash, mail a check to my home or the McDowell Center or send it via PayPal. My PayPal account is tonton at insightbb.com.

If you'd like to call Buffa, she still has the same cell phone number that she had when she was in Louisville. Feel free to email or call me, if you don't have it. I'd be more than happy to help braille any cards or letters to send to her.

Please forward this info to anyone who you think would want to know about Buffa's accident. I'm trying to get the word out to all her friends and former coworkers in KY but I've no doubt left out some people.

I'll wrap up by sharing that when I asked Buffa what we could do for her or if she needed anything; she just requested for us to pray that her bones heal properly and that she have a quick recovery. So, please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Tonia
