Hi Rick, you may want to give this a try.

Go to the Control Panel, then hardware and sound, then manage audio devices. You should be on the playback tab below that it will say "select the playback device below to modify it Settings".  Double-click on speakers.  Select the "enhancements" tab.  There is a checkbox there for bass boost.  Make sure that it is not checked. 

As always, there are so many variables. Depending on what software is included with your computer such as soundcard drivers or other software that came with your sound card.
